About Georgia
Forests and dense vegetation cover Georgia's 59,441 square miles, stretching from the Atlantic coast in the southeast corner to the Appalachian Mountains in the northwest corner. Forty inches of rain or more fall annually throughout the state, making Georgia a rich farming region and feeding a vibrant environment of green vegetation and wildlife. Winters are mild and summers hot and humid.
One of the original thirteen colonies, Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the constitution on January 2, 1788. As of the year 2000, the population is 8,186,453.
